After seeing how learning Spanish changed his wife's life, Media School professor Walter Gantz decided to create a scholarship in Jane's honor in hopes of giving students the same positive experience with the language that his wife has had.
Jane Gantz retired from her job in the IU Office of Admissions in 2008 and immediately began to chase her dream of becoming fluent in Spanish. She was able to do so by taking courses at IU. Since Jane started studying the language and traveling, Walter said that he's never seen her happier and simply wants to help other people chase their dreams as well.
Through this scholarship, Walter hopes to provide students with the chance to create lifelong friendships as well as develop a lifelong interest in the diversity of other countries.
The Jane Gantz Overseas Study Scholarship offers an annual scholarship to an undergraduate Media School student double majoring in media and Spanish. It can be used toward a study abroad program in a Spanish-speaking country.
