David Overton passed away May 5, 2021.

Overton was an award-winning investigative journalist. He was involved with the Investigatve Reporters and Editor's 1975-1976 Arizona Project, an investigation into organize crime. He was named the 1980 Byliner of the Year for Investigative Reporting by the Society of Professional Journalist while working as a reporter for WCIV-TV in South Carolina. Overton held leadership roles at WISH-TV in Indianapolis, WAVY-TV in Virginia, KXAS-TV in Dallas, VNR-1 Communications in Texas, and KEYE-TV in Austin. His career extended beyond newsrooms, and was vice president of media services for Cone, Inc., LLC; director of communications for Boston Public Schools; and interim chair in the School of Journalism at Emerson College.

Overton's career won him and his organizations several awards, including the American Heart Association Howard Blakeslee Award for Documentary Production, the John Muir Medical Film Festival Award for Documentary Production, and Radio and Television News Directors Association awards for Best Large Market Newscast and Best Spot News Coverage.
