Vernon Williams passed away May 12, 2024. He worked as the communications and community engagement strategist for IU Indianapolis. In this role, he was awarded with the 2019 IUPUI Multicultural Impact Award. Previously, he had served as the vice president of communication for the Indiana Black Expo and as president of Seventh Son Media Inc.

Williams spent time as an executive board member of the Indianapolis Association of Black Journalists. His career contained his passion for and dedication to the arts even as he worked in communications and public relations. He used his skills to uplift his community and guide others. 

In 2022, Williams was awarded with a President's Award from the IU Alumni Association. He was recognized by many organizations during his lifetime, including IU Groups, the Hoosier State Press Association, the Indianapolis Recorder, and the Center for Leadership Development. Williams wrote 11 plays during his life, as well as four books.
