Clifford Tinder died Aug. 16, 2022, at age 66. 

Tinder was born in La Paz, Bolivia, grew up in Roslyn, New York, and attended IU. 

He worked as a jazz writer for the Indiana Daily Student. He also booked artists, including Weather Report, Chick Corea, and Rahsaan Roland Kirk, whose final concert was one booked by Tinder. He was then asked to write Kirk's obituary for the New York Times. 

After graduating, he became a music critic whose work appeared in Rolling Stone, Musician Magazine, Downbeat and Listen Magazine, among others. He served as managing editor for Stagebill and worked for Playbill for nearly two decades, eventually becoming senior vice president and Classic Arts editor-in-chief.
