Olga Gize Carlile died Feb. 19, 2021, at age 94. 

Carlile worked at The Freeport (Illinois) Journal-Standard as a copy editor, woman’s editor, food editor, society editor, assistant managing editor and features editor. She wrote a column called “Around the Table,” volunteered at and served on the advisory board of the Salvation Army and was a member of The Shakespeare Society. She served on the Highland Community College Foundation board for almost 20 years. 

After graduating from IU, she moved to Freeport, where she married her husband and raised two sons. She won awards from the Associated Press, the Woman’s Press Association and the Illinois Press Association.
