Susan Esther Bassett Hetheringon died July 3, 2022. 

Hetherington was a high school teacher, a magazine editor, a nonprofit executive, a philanthropist and an advisor to three Indiana governors, service which in 1985 merited her recognition as a Sagamore of the Wabash. 

At IU, she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, was recognized as the outstanding female journalism graduate, and she married Jim Hetherington, that year’s outstanding male journalism graduate.
